Cosmic Matrimony Dartboard

The great Indian matrimonial game played by millions on the pages of classifieds has now moved to the internet. Finding that perfect match entails sifting through endless layers of religion, caste/sub-caste, astrology, education and economic standing. Typically a high caste Indian groom settled abroad will be at the centre of this cosmos, the outer peripheries will be populated by social pariahs – divorcees, over 30’s, those with an imperfect horoscope. Much like a game of darts. A hundred profi les squeeze for space on dartboard. Some are sourced from the columns of newspapers, others fictitious: all intricately drawn and described. Visitors to the Biennale write their name on a dart to try their luck. As the event progresses the board is filled up with darts – mismatched unions of the matrimonial cosmos.
